Huawei P40 (March 2020)




Arriving a month after MWC if it follows its usual strategy, we'll see the Huawei P40, P40 Pro and a 5G variant in March 2020. There is some talk of it being renamed P400, but in essence we're talking about the successor to the P30 (pictured).

Known for its photography credentials, the Pro model could be getting a fifth camera. The penta-lens camera hasn't gone down so well for the Nokia 9, but Huawei has potential here we think.

Expect to see an upgrade to the Kirin 990, which we will have already tested in the Mate 30, and a redesigned display with a punch-hole-style camera cutout.

Samsung Galaxy S11 (23 Feb 2020 )




Samsung's Galaxy S11 will almost certainly also borrow some features from the Note 10, including its new Aura Glow, Aura Black and Aura White colour options, 45W fast charging and enhanced cameras. Sadly, just like that phone, it will probably also lose its headphone jack, dedicated Bixby button and heart-rate sensor.

 But there's still a lot to be excited about, even though it is early days for Galaxy S11 rumours, with the phone not thought to arrive until 23 February 2020 - or should that be phones, since there will almost certainly be Plus and 5G variants, though it's unclear whether we'll see an S11e.
The S11 will be one of the first to use the Snapdragon 865 in some markets, while here in the UK we'll get the latest Exynos chip, which reportedly may be down to 5nm in time for the launch. It will also allegedly feature a significant camera upgrade (64Mp lens?) and a much smaller selfie camera cutout than we see in Note 10.

GOOGLE: PIXEL 4, PIXEL 4 XL




After months and months of seemingly constant leaks, Google has officially announced both the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. The two phones are essentially identical, besides the size difference.

Key improvements include a 90Hz display – 5.7in 1080p on the Pixel 4, 6.3in QHD+ on the Pixel 4 XL – along with a radar chip that enables gesture controls. It also packs in a second, telephoto camera on the back, as well as 3D facial security on the front.

It also cuts the two-tone backing glass style of the Pixel 3, making it look more like an iPhone… although the bright orange, "Oh So Orange" colour option is anything but iPhone-esque.

You can pre-order the Pixel 4 phones now, starting at £669 for the standard version and £829 for the Pixel 4 XL. Both ship on 24 October.

ONEPLUS: 7T AND 7T PRO





It was pretty much official, but now it's officially official: the OnePlus 7T is coming soon. Oh, and we've already reviewed it. Surprise!

 This five-star update to the overly familiar OnePlus 7 brings more substantial changes, most notably the same kind of 90Hz screen refresh rate as the OnePlus 7 Pro. That makes everything feel super smooth and swift, although this 6.55in panel is still at 1080p resolution.

 Elsewhere, you get a redesigned back camera array with a third shooter, plus the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus chip adds a bit more oomph than before. Warp Charge 30T tech also tops up the handset faster than before.

 The OnePlus 7T will sell for £549, while a new OnePlus 7T Pro - which hasn't really changed much from the OnePlus 7 Pro - starts at £699. Both ship on 2 November.

HUAWEI: MATE X

Shown at MWC in late February, the 5G-capable Huawei Mate X is a foldable phone along the lines of Samsung's Galaxy Fold, but it's done in a quite different manner. Rather than have a second screen hidden inside the fold, this one extra-large 8in display is wrapped around the outside.

That means you'll have screen on the front, screen on the back, and then one big conjoined screen when you fully unfold it. The benefit is a slimmer-looking phone; the downside comes with potential scratches, and possibly a flimsier feel than the Galaxy Fold.

In any case, we're super enticed, especially after going hands-on. The Mate X was supposed to ship sometime in the first half of this year, but following the Galaxy Fold debacle, Huawei has delayed the release... now purportedly to late October in China before arriving elsewhere. And it won't be cheap: in fact, it's hilariously expensive at €2,299 (about £2,057).

At least the delay has resulted in an upgrade to the new Kirin 990 processor, although we still don't have an exact release date as of this writing.
